Cultivating the Community
The Clarkston Farm and Garden Club works to improve The Village of Clarkston and Independence Township in many different ways. Through local participation, the group promotes beautification, education and conservation. They have consistently received the Hazel Herring Award for Civic Improvement from the Woman's National Farm and Garden Association. Some of the ways they help the community are as follows:

Providing Clarkston School District Schools with programs geared towards conservation and beautification
Providing scholarship money to high school seniors as well as to the Higgins Lake Summer Camp Program
Providing programs with an environmental focus for the public at the Independence Township Library
